The Farm

The village of Alenquer, also known as Vila Presépio (because of the big Nativity scene that is displayed in the hillside in Christmas), is situated «Região do Oeste», a region featuring extensive vineyards and hills crowned with windmills, and between a coastline with numerous beaches and the beauty of Tejo river.

The excellent location of Quinta do Covanco, at entrance of the village of Alenquer and at about 35 kilometers from Lisbon, make it the perfect place not only for those who would like to enjoy a quiet day of rest, but also for those who would like to know some of the several historic places in the region, such as Lisbon, Sintra, Mafra Convent, Queluz National Palace, Óbidos, Nazaré, Tomar ...

Quinta do Covanco, formerly also called Quinta do Cobanco, is a centenary farm of the historic municipality of Alenquer, whose known origin dates back to 1873 when it was owned by David Gonçalves Chaves. In the past, owners were engaged in agricultural activities, including the cultivation of the vine, and that's why the farm is characterized by a rural architectural style. Infrastructures such as the mill, the distillery and the cellars are the hallmarks of the referred past. Nowadays, this impressive infrastructure is adapted to provide comfort and quietness to our guests, who are welcomed into a cozy family atmosphere.

To start your day, enjoy our tasty breakfast. After that, there is a lot to discover. Here are some suggestions: a walk in the historic town of Alenquer, where you can visit the ruins of the castle and some beautiful churches; a walk in Montejunto Mountain, to appreciate the breathtaking landscapes, and where you can also visit the Royal Ice Factory; a visit to a wine producing farm, where you can taste some of the wines produced in the region; or maybe go a little further, to discover the beautiful beaches of the Oeste, such as Peniche, Baleal and Berlengas Nature Reserve, Santa Cruz, Nazaré and São Martinho do Porto. (In the "What to Visit" you will find more suggestions.)

In the end of the day you can enjoy a nice meal or have a drink listening to the soothing crackle of the fire, or you can try one of the many typical restaurants in the area.
